First Maxfield Mutual Insurance Association is one of the oldest insurance companies in Iowa as it's history predates such significant history and events as the Civil War and the creation of the Iowa State Fair. First Maxfield was formed by a church congregation in 1860 to protect farmsteads under the mutual insurance plan as originated in Europe because reliable and prompt insurance protection was not available for local farmers. Today, First Maxfield Mutual provides low cost, people to people service, for six thousand Iowans who own homes and farms. Over $1.6 billion of property is insured and the surplus to protect policyholders is in excess of $20,000,000. First Maxfield prides itself on its prompt service and its stable rate history which are made possible by attention to sound underwriting, claims and investment decisions.
